We walked around Llanes looking at places we had visited previously. A great deal of restoration work has been completed. Even the old palacio has further work being undertaken.
9th - Llanes
The information office has moved from the tower, near the palacio, to the square by the church. We visited both in the rain and also found the internet cafe, which was useful.
10th - Llanes to Arriondas
A dry morning for the walk to the station for the 11.13 train. There were a few other pilgrims around, waiting for the train to Santander at the end of this stage of their pilgrimage.
Many of the harbourside houses had also been restored in the past year
Next day brought more rain and the final decision to take the train to Arriondas and walk to Covadonga from the west
Arriondas:- 10th May
When we arrived in Arriondas it was dry and much brighter. The hotel was very welcoming and let us into the room although we were early. Then we went to look for lunch. The El Submarino had a menu del dia which included chicken soup and 'Arroz con Pollo' (rice with chicken). It was excellent.
The usual washing of clothes and siesta before we went sightseeing. Our hosts at the hotel had prepared a list of places we will walk through to Covadonga and the way out of town. The GR 108 and 109 are the recommended route, the Camino de la Reina, so that is the way that we will go.
